Immigration Updates – France – Updated List of Shortage Occupation

What is the change?

The French government has released the new list of shortage occupation which came in force since 22 May 2025.

The decree of 21 May 2025 updates the list of professions characterized by recruitment difficulties, pursuant to Article L. 414-13 of the Code of Entry and Residence of Foreigners and the Right of Asylum (CESEDA).

The list aims at reducing the administrative processing time used in the recruitment for non-EU nationals, lifting the requirement to publish a job offer for a period of three weeks with organizations belonging to the public employment service.

Set by regions, this updated list takes into account the difficulty in recruiting in some professional sectors such as construction, hospitality, catering, waste management, logistics, healthcare and personal care. It also affects highly skilled jobs, particularly for engineering professions.

The list will be updated annually based on adaptation to changes of the local labor market.
